After finishing with work on Saturday morning, the team took me to some of the scenic areas, a city called Taygaytay that’s know for a large lake with an active volcano caldera in the center. When we first arrived, it was very foggy and raining, but by the time we finished with breakfast we were able to find a resort area where I could take some photos. The weather was pretty cloudy, but that’s normal for this time of year.
Even the drive over was interesting, as we went through many different areas. What’s know as Manila is really just one of many different cities that make up the larger area that most westerners simply know as ‘Manila.’

We had breakfast at a place that overlooks the volcano; unfortunately, the weather prevented the view, though we’d occasionally get a glimpse through the cloud cover.

Looking down on the lake as we were driving to a better viewing area. It’s very mountainous, and the trip down reminded me of our visits to the Blue Ridge, except the plants were tropical!

My first good view of the volcano. It is still active, and there are actually boats that will take you out for a dip in hot springs.

A better shot of the caldera, on the right.

A shot of the wonderful folks that arranged this expedition. I can’t thank them enough for the experience!

Looking back at the resort area next to the lake. It’s a very nice place, and the prices – even for a large villa – are very reasonable, very inexpensive by US standards. An villa for 11 people would set you back a whopping $335!

There was a chapel on the resort property.

Carved saint against one wall.

A door into the chapel. My wife likes doors, so it’s an obligatory shot!

I don’t know what it is, but it’s pretty. We actually have something similar in our front yard in Florida.

This is a panorama of the lake, panning from the resort on the left past the volcano caldera on the right. It’s a really big fresh-water lake.
